There is just something cool about calling a parts manufacturer and having the owner, or his mom, or his wife, or his dad answer the phone. That's because Billet 4-U in Louisville, Colorado is an honest-to-goodness family-run business. Heck, we're willing to bet that when Todd and Amanda Matteson's daughter Taylor is old enough, she'll be sitting at her dad's desk picking up the phone, too.

Anybody who has paid attention to the bikes that have been featured right here in HOT ROD'S BIKE-WORKS or just about any other American Motorcycle magazine have seen the handiwork of Billet 4-U. Their popular open primary drive setup put them on the map, and they are always expanding their selection of parts, building everything from sidemount taillights, motor mounts, and license plate mounts to jockey shifters and intake manifolds.

Todd's Company Has Grown Into One of the most respected high-end manufacturers in the motorcycle aftermarket that will actually work with their customers on custom-made components. That's because no matter how big Billet 4-U gets, it is easy for Todd to trace his steps back to his humble beginnings working long nights in his parent's garage. Like a lot of companies, Billet-4-U actually started in the Mattesons' family garage with some machines that his father-a machinist in the aerospace industry-had collected over the years. From a very young age, Todd honed his skills working on manual machines that took up so much space that the family cars had to be left in the driveway. And when he was old enough to build his first motorcycle, he decided that he was going to build as many of the parts for the project as he could with his own two hands and the skills he had developed on a bunch of outdated machines that he loved.

His very first bike, simply known to his friends as "The Red Bike," was a hit, and a lot of the people who got to see it up close started asking about all of the custom parts. So Todd started building small parts for his friends' bikes, and before long he was carving out copies of the open-primary drive that he had built for "The Red Bike," and Billet 4-U was born.

Well, as you can see by these photos, Billet 4-U has come a long way from that crowded garage. In fact, this is the second shop that they have been in since 1994, because they quickly outgrew their original location by upgrading their machinery. But with new machines comes new technology, and with new technology comes better-quality parts. But don't take our word for it, just give Billet 4-U a call at (303) 666-1297 for a copy of their latest catalog or check out their website at www.billet4u.com.
